Partial Discharge Sensors

CC-TEV PD sensors

Partial Discharge Sensors

CC-TEV

The CC-TEV Capacitive Coupler detects TEVs as they pass over the cladding of the high voltage plant. Fast output signals are recorded by the ASM, PrecisePD or PD-SG1 systems. The sensor is encased in a durable PVC sleeve for added protection. Embedded in the body are powerful magnets allowing for coupling to steel enclosures..

  • Detects TEVs as they pass over the cladding of the high voltage plant
  • Fast output signals are recorded by the ASM, PrecisePD or PD-SG1 systems.
  • Sensor is encased in a durable PVC sleeve for added protection.

AA-Ultrasonic ipec

Partial Discharge Sensors

AA-Ultrasonic

The AA Ultrasonic acoustic probe is designed for use on air insulated terminations where a clear sound path between the electrically stressed insulation and the probe is present.

  • Extremely sensitive and can detect activity below 10pC.
  • Magnetic base to allow coupling to steel enclosures
  • Swivel head so the detecting sensor can be aimed directly at the HV point. This is a feature

HFCT Ipec

Partial Discharge Sensors

HFCT

The HFCT is a high frequency current transformer designed specifically for picking up partial discharge signals, predominantly in cables. It has a split core ferrite to allow retrospective fitting to earth straps without the need for disconnection. The durable body has a hinge and a quick release latch, making use quick and easy. The HFCT is constructed with an aluminium body to provide RF shielding and improved performance in noisy environments.

  • Ideal for all earth and neutral PD monitoring applications.
  • Designed specifically for picking up partial discharge signals
  • Constructed with an aluminium body to provide RF shielding

UHF Ipec

Partial Discharge Sensors

UHF

IPEC’s UHF (Ultra High Frequency) sensors are used to detect PD in EHV cable terminations, GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear). The sensors pick up signals in the UHF range (200MHz-2.5GHz) and are mounted against the insulating barrier spacers that separate components of the HV asset. The sensors work with multiple IPEC monitoring systems.

ipec Noise gating

Partial Discharge Sensors

Noise Gating

When PD signals occur within GIS assets, the Ultra-High Frequency signal which is emitted, if of significant level, may be detected by neighbouring sensors. This is known as cross coupling. Using IPEC's Noise Gating Sensor (NGS), the signal can be isolated and removed from the other sensors to ensure a clearer PD location. Additionally, the NGS will isolate any spurious background noise signals in the UHF frequency range, to further ensure more accurate PD detection.

  • Signals can be isolated and removed from the other sensors to ensure a clearer PD location
  • Isolate any spurious background noise signals in the UHF frequency range
  • Ensure more accurate PD detection

Partial Discharge Sensors

Environment Sensor

The temperature and humidity sensor generates frequency modulated signals on two output channels, one corresponding to the temperature and the other corresponding with the humidity. The sensor should be mounted on the wall at an appropriate position to measure the substation environmental conditions.

Parabolic reflector

Partial Discharge Sensors

Parabolic Reflector

Parabolic Reflector is an ultrasonic sensor for use when detecting partial discharge activity on exposed insulating surfaces. The reflector increases the sensitivity of the sensor allowing detection to be effective at up to 100m. It is commonly used in outdoor switchyards to detect surface discharge on string and post insulators, sealing ends and other exposed equipment.

  • Ultrasonic sensor for use when detecting partial discharge activity on exposed insulating surfaces
  • Generate an audible output according to the level of activity detected
  • Reflector increases the sensitivity of the sensor allowing detection to be effective at up to 100m

Partial Discharge Sensors

Contact AA

The Contact Acoustic Sensor is mainly used for oil filled transformers, circuit breakers and other plant. Its main function is to detect Partial Discharge through contact with these assets. The contact sensor uses capacitive coupling technology and is used oil filled cabinets. When installed the sensor detects high frequency signals caused by partial discharge inside the switchgear. It can also be used as an accessory with IPEC PD Spot Testers.

  • Mainly used for oil filled transformers, circuit breakers and other plant
  • Detects high frequency signals caused by partial discharge inside the switchgear
  • Can also be used as an accessory with IPEC PD Spot Testers
