Has anybody seen a rubber insulator deteriorate like this before?
High PD levels were detected at a 33kV transformer cable termination box using ultrasonics. It was detected through a ventilation hole in the bottom of the box. After a shutdown, the box was opened and it was found that humidity was causing condensation leading to corrosion, partial discharge, and disintegration of the post insulators. This clearly shows the value of proper silica gel breathers.
