One of IPECs’ field engineers, Chris, completed his own triathlon in hopes of raising money for arthritis UK.
Chris’ story:
I was planning on running this 10 km (my first) for fun, so I can push myself as far as I can go.
Then one month ago, I couldn’t walk and spent a week in the hospital where they told me I had Ankylosing Spondylitis (a form of genetic arthritis) in the base of my spine and I should watch what I do to keep in control of it.
So despite this, I’m still planning on doing this race, even more so now. In addition to the race, I have decided to take part in the Great Manchester 26 mile cycle and the Great Manchester Swim. It is my own personal challenge to prove to myself that I control my condition, not the other way around.
I wasn’t going to ask for sponsors before but I feel I want help someone else with my condition, maybe someone who has it much worse, by running for Arthritis Research UK.
I will complete this run, cycle and swim for my own personal challenge, but if anyone is kind enough to also want to help someone else get though this – well that’s a bonus!
Thank you!
Chris has now completed a 10k run, 42k cycle and 1.6k swim over the course of 6 weeks, he raised a total of £330.
Well done, Chris!
