The Role
As a Field Service Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside our skilled service engineers. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of electrical asset diagnostics, PD testing (online and offline), system installations, and field service operations in a high-tech and safety-critical environment.
You will be responsible for:
- Assist in installation, testing, and commissioning of IPEC Partial Discharge monitoring systems at customer sites.
- Support the delivery of online PD surveys, offline testing, and asset condition monitoring services.
- Learn to operate diagnostic instruments and support site engineers with data collection, report preparation, and system troubleshooting.
- Follow proper safety procedures and assist with maintaining site documentation and test records.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and ensure readiness for field deployment.
- Support in the setup, calibration, and configuration of IPEC test systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and logistics teams for timely job execution and technical support.
The Field Service Apprentice role at IPEC is designed not only to provide hands-on training but also to offer a clear growth pathway within the organization. During the apprenticeship, candidates will undergo structured training programs, site-based learning, and mentorship by senior engineers.
The typical year-on-year development plan includes:
- Year 1: Foundation
Basic PD concepts, safety training, and support roles in installation and testing.
- Year 2: Intermediate
Independently supporting field tests, reporting, and system setup under supervision.
- Year 3: Advanced
Leading PD surveys and site work with minimal guidance, supporting new apprentices.
- Year 4: Professional
Fully capable Field Engineer managing projects, customer interface, and mentoring juniors.
Upon successful completion of the 4-year apprenticeship, candidates will be eligible for full-time Field Engineer roles within IPEC. This includes opportunities for specialization, international site assignments, and progression into supervisory or technical expert positions.
